Baymont opens first hotel in Canada
9-November-2009

With 225 hotels throughout the US, Wyndham Hotel Group’s Baymont brand has recently opened its first property in Canada, the Baymont Inn and Suites in Niagara Falls, Ont.

After a six-month, half-million dollar renovation project that included remodeling all bathrooms and adding a fitness facility, small meeting room and guest laundry services, the former Lodge Inn has been converted to the Baymont property.

“What the Baymont brand does for this property is it boosts our international presence through Wyndham Worldwide,” says the hotel’s general manager, Paul Sutton. “We work very closely with Wyndham’s global sales team to reposition what was a non-branded property was before so that we’re better able to compete in the global marketplace… as The Lodge Inn it was very difficult to do that.”

Since opening at the beginning of this summer, Sutton says the hotel has been attracting families, and many sports groups from key markets including cities in Ontario, as well as in Michigan and Ohio state-side, where a number of Baymont properties are located.

In Canada, the hotel is also focusing its marketing efforts heavily on Quebec this year, and will be at the Bienvenue Quebec trade show in November.

The hotel offers travellers a host of complimentary amenities including high-speed wireless Internet access, daily continental breakfast, and access to a business centre, meeting facilities, gym, indoor pool, sauna and hot tub. The hotel’s on-site Wild Wing Restaurant offers lunch and dinner and is ideal for families and sports groups, and on-site parking is also available.

Of its 59 rooms, 40 feature two queen-sized bed while the balance offer a king-sized bed and some king suites also offer Jacuzzis and fireplaces.

“From a convenience perspective, Baymont is a great mid-tier hotel experience that’s close to everything,” says Sutton, noting that the hotel is located a five minutes’ walk from the Falls, the Skylon Tower and local casinos, and is a five minutes’ drive to the Canada One Factory Outlets shopping centre.

With a newly-renovated exterior and an introductory rate of $79, the Baymont is hoping to attract more visitors this travel season.
