The Fairmont Royal York has been named one of two select Toronto hotels to partner with the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) for the once-in-a-lifetime exhibition of the Dead Sea Scrolls: Words that Changed the World.
The Royal York is offering a Dead Sea Scrolls Package, available through Jan. 3, 2010, that allows guests a chance to enjoy preferred access to the exhibit.
Called the most significant archaeological discovery of the past century, the Dead Sea scrolls consist of roughly 900 documents, including texts from the Hebrew Bible, which were discovered between 1947 and 1956 in 11 caves in and around the ancient settlement of Khirbet Qumran, on the northwest shore of the Dead Sea.
The texts are of great religious and historical significance as they include some of the earliest records of Biblical patriarchs and prophets embraced by Judaism, Christianity and Islam.
They are written in Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek, written mainly on parchment and papyrus, and date back 2000 years.
The package is priced from $229 per night, exclusive of taxes and gratuities, based upon double occupancy. This includes accommodation, valet parking for one car, $25 food and beverage credit, and two adult tickets to the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit, with reserved time.
