The world’s longest zipline, desert safaris and horseback riding are just a few of the adventures that await visitors to Desertica – one of Mexico’s newest attractions.

Located about 20 minutes from San Jose in the Los Cabos region, Desertica opened in November. Set on 80 hectares, it is home to an Old West theme town, where all the fun begins. Amenities include a pool, complete with wet bar, restaurant and even a wedding chapel.

During a recent visit to Toronto, Mario Hernandez, general director of Desertica and Tropical Incentives, said Desertica has something for everyone and is ideal for families and groups (the facility can accommodate groups of up to 1,000 people).

“It’s a destination in itself, like an outdoor adventure park,” he said. “There’s nothing else like this in Cabo. You can relax by the pool or go extreme. If you want adrenaline, you can have it.”

Open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Desertica’s most popular activity is the Extreme Baja tour, highlighted by an off-road adventure aboard twin 650cc custom vehicles and the thrill of ziplining at the old Gold Canyon, called Yeneká. Desertica’s ziplining circuit consists of two courses and 16 cables of varying lengths and heights built right in the middle of the canyon.

Described as the “longest, fastest circuit in the world,” at points participants are suspended more than 120 metres above the canyon floor. Once back at Desertica, lunch and cold beer are served.

For the not-so-extreme crowd, other available activities include 4x4 ATV tours, Zip & Splash tour, desert safari aboard an all-terrain safari-type vehicle and horseback riding. Coming soon will be archery and skeet shooting, as well as a local craft market.
